Chocolate
Competition
(Tewkesbury
Food Festival). There were no correct entries!
In fact from all the entries received, the highest
number of correct ingredients was 1. I knew it
was not going to be easy, because the flavours
blend in a most unusual way, but expected at least
3/4 to be correct. I suppose it helps the taste
buds to know the answer in advance! In the circumstances,
we don't feel we can award a full first prize,
but will be sending a small box of chocolates
to Helen and Tim in Tewkesbury. I hope you all
think this is fair - and that you enjoyed the
truffles anyway.
The
correct answers were (and are): Apple, Blackcurrant,
Ginger and Whisky (in fact a Whisky liqueur).
The same chocolate can be found in the boxed assortments,
slightly larger and decorated, as "Ballet".
We
will be at Chepstow Farmers' Market on Saturday
13th.
In late 2004 we moved into new manufacturing
premises - an outbuilding on the site - thanks
to a Rural Development Grant from DEFRA. This
gives us greatly increased capacity. and, even
more importantly, we get our house back!
Our new line of moulded chocolates
(Hedgerow Creams) has proved very popular, as
are the whipped cream truffles we do for shows
and fairs. We've introduced another new line of
old fashioned butter caramels, called old fashioned
only because you can't seem to get them any more.
Once introduced, they're going well, too - the
only trouble being that I eat far too many of
them.
Employment
Opportunities.
We are always happy to hear from anyone interested
in making chocolates. Applicants need to be highly
self-motivated, intelligent, quick to learn, meticulous
and conscientious - and not so hungry that they
eat all the chocolates. Some degree of digital
dexterity is an advantage. Living in is an option.
